🌍 Earlier this September, the SCiNDTiLA Project had the privilege of participating in the EGOV-CeDEM-ePart conference in Leuven, Belgium.
On the first day, The SCiNDTiLA team conducted a workshop co-led by Lucy Temple, Gabriela Viale Pereira, and Thomas J. Lampoltshammer, where participants explored the use of Digital Twins for Small towns. The focus was on three use cases identified through a series of detailed interviews conducted by Laura Kaltenbrunner and Torsten Priebe in the context of Lower Austria. These were,
👥 The impact of growing populations in small towns,
➡️ The added value of building a traffic bypass and traffic flow planning,
🚫🚗and the effect of transforming key parts of small cities into pedestrian
encounter zones, removing traffic.
The engagement from participants was exceptional, sparking discussions and insightful feedback. Their input on stakeholders, key data sets, resident behaviour, and the scope of the "dream" digital twin will be very useful as we continue developing the cases.
On the second day, Gabriela Viale Pereira and Lucy Temple presented a poster, showcasing some results of the research conducted during the first year of the project, on the transfer of smart city concepts to small towns and non-urban regions. The response was fantastic, leading to some great conversations and new ideas that we are excited to explore further. Stay tuned as we will be sharing some more developments on this topic very soon 🕒.
The conference was also a wonderful opportunity to network with academics specializing in digital twin technology in cities. The exchange of knowledge was enriching, and we look forward to the possibility of future collaborations.

Excited for the next steps in our research and development of Digital Twin technology for smarter, more connected regions 🚀
